Charleston Cottage interior was inspired by my visit to Charleston Farmhouse in the UK, the home and meeting place of the ‘Bloomsbury set’ in the first half of the 20th century. They were writers intellectuals and artists dedicated to equality, diversity and included Virginia Wolfe. I have filled the house with beautiful things and colour and textures which can be seen at times as moody and uplifting, a free and individualistic approach to interior design.
Originally built as a combined shop and residence, with its charming Georgian facade, the cottage has been lovingly renovated to retain its heritage feel, with timber-lined ceilings, rough-sawn Tasmanian oak floors, original fireplace surrounds, windows and doors. Walls have been plastered with a beeswax & Marseille soap finish; and a curated collection of original artwork, antiques and vintage pieces feature throughout.
